Night of Miraj – Al Isra
What happened on the Night of Miraj?
On this night The Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) was fetched by Gabriel (a.s.) from Makkah and delivered to Al-Aqsa. From there he (p.b.u.h.) was lifted through Levels of Jannah on a creature named Al-Buraq. Al-Buraq was a white animal, who was smaller than a mule but bigger than a donkey. Through this journey, the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) met with various other Prophets (a.s.) and witnessed various happenings, as well as the amazing event of conversing with The Most-Merciful and The Most-Gracious, Allah SWT!
What was the reason for the Night of Miraj?
It was during this rapture that Allah SWT gave the commandments to The Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) for Salat to be performed (i.e. before the Night of Miraj, there is no Salat).
When did it happen?
Year 721
This year was a sad year for the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) because the beloved wife of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) St. Khadija (r.a.) and Abu Talib (the Prophet Muhammad’s uncle) passed.
How did it happen?
Anas bin Malik (r.a.) said that Abu Dhar (r.a.) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h.) said:
“While I was at Makkah, there roof of my house was opened and Gabriel descended, opened my chest, and washed it with Zam – Zam water. Then he brought a golden tray full of wisdom and faith and having poured its contents into my chest, he closed it. Then he took my hand and ascended with me to the nearest heaven, when I reached the nearest heaven, Gabriel said to the gatekeeper of the heaven, ‘Open (the gate).’ The gatekeeper asked, ‘Who is it?’ Gabriel answered: ‘Gabriel.’ He asked, ‘Is there anyone with you?’ Gabriel replied, ‘Yes, Muhammad (peace be upon him) is with me’. He asked, ‘Has he been called?’ Gabriel said, ‘Yes.’ So the gate was opened and we went over the nearest heaven and there we saw a man sitting with Aswida (a large number of people) on his right and Aswida (a large number of people) on his left. When you look towards his right, he laughed, and when he looked towards his left, he wept. Then he said, ‘Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious son.’ I asked Gabriel, ‘Who is he?’ He replied, ‘He is a Adam and the people on his right and left are the souls of his offspring. Those on his right are the people of Paradise and those on his left other people of Hell and when he looked towards his right he laughed and when he looked towards his left he wept.’ Then he ascended with me till he reached the second heaven and he (Gabriel) said to the gatekeeper, ‘Open (the gate).’ The gatekeeper said to him the same as the gatekeeper of the first heaven had said and he opened the gate.”
Anas said: “Abu Dhar added that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met Adam, Idris (Enoch), Musa (Moses), Isa (Jesus) and Ibrahim (Abraham) (peace and blessings be upon him), he (Abu Dhar) did not mention on which Heaven they were, but he mentiosned that he (The Prophet peace and blessings be upon him) makes Adam on the nearest Heaven and Ibrahim (Abraham) on the sixth Heaven”.
Anas said, “When Gabriel (a.s) along with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Idris (Enoch), the latter said, ‘Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious brother.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, ‘Who is He?’ Gabriel replied, “He is Idris (Enoch).’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) added, “I passed by Musa (Moses) and he said, “Welcome! O pious brother and pious Prophet.’ I asked Gabriel, ‘who is he?’ Gabriel replied, ‘He is Musa (Moses).’ Then add passed by Iesa (Jesus) and he said, ‘Welcome! O pious brother and pious Prophet.’ I asked, ‘who is he?’ Gabriel replied, ‘He is Isa (Jesus)’. Then I passed by Ibrahim (Abraham) and he said, ‘Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious son.’ I asked Gabriel, ‘who is he?’ Gabriel replied, ‘He is Ibrahim (Abraham peace and blessings be upon him).”
Ibn Abbas (r.a.) and Abu Habba Al-Ansari said: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) added, “Then Gabriel ascended with me to a place where I heard the creaking of pens.”
Anas bin Malik said: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Then Allah enjoined fifty Salat (prayers) on my followers, when I returned with this order of Allah, I had passed by Musa (Moses) who asked me, ‘What has Allah enjoined on your followers?’ I replied, “He has enjoined fifty Salat (prayers) on them.’ Musa (Moses) said, ‘Go back to your Lord (and appeal for reduction) for your followers will not be able to bear it. (So, I went back to Allah and requested for that reduction) and He reduced it to half. When I passed by Musa (Moses) again and informed him about it, he said, ‘Go back to your Lord as you followers will not be able to bear it.’ So I return to Allah and requested for further reduction than half of it was reduced. I again passed by Musa (Moses) and he said to me: ‘Return to your Lord, for your followers will not be able to bear it’. So I return to Allah and He said, “There are five Salat (prayers) and they are all (equal to) fifty (in reward) for My Word does not change.’ I returned to Musa (Moses) and he told me to go back once again. I replied, ‘Now I feel shy of asking my Lord again.’ Then Gabriel took me till we reached Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (lote tree of the utmost boundary) which was shrouded in colours, indescribable. Then I was admitted I for into Paradise where I found small walls (made) of pearls and it’s earth was of musk (a kind of perfume).[1:354:O.B.]
(Sahih Al_Bukhari)“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-
Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing”.
Quran (17:1)“And he certainly saw him in another descent,
At the Lote-tree of the Utmost Boundary –
Near it is the Garden of Refuge –
When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]
The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit].
He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.
Quran (53:13–18[4])Is this night supposed to be celebrated?
According to Islam Q and A as well as various other sources, this is not a night for celebration as there were only two Eids prescribed to man for festivity purposes. If this event was meant to have annual (for example) celebrations, it would have been practised by the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) but no record of such happenings were found. However this night does hold various lessons from the event, and is a historically beautiful and astounding night, as this night was the night which the Salat (prayers) were prescribed and announced in a grand and spectacular way! Alhamdulilah ♥

This world will be gone and over in a blink and we are gonna be free.
Shaykh Abd al-Azeez Aal al-Shaykh:
“Her (the Wife) work in her house is an act of worship to Allah, and her doing her household duties and taking care of her children are an act of worship to Allah, so she is in a state of worship, in In Shaa Allah. So she should make the most of the time in order to remember Allah; it is permissible to remember Allah whilst preparing food, praise be to Allah.”

From time to time, sit close to the one you love, hold his or her hand, and ask, ‘Darling, do I understand you enough? Or am I making you suffer? Please tell me so that I can learn to love you properly. I don’t want to make you suffer, and if I do so because of my ignorance, please tell me so that I can love you better, so that you can be happy.“ If you say this in a voice that communicates your real openness to understand, the other person may cry.
That is a good sign, because it means the door of understanding is opening and everything will be possible again.
Maybe a father does not have time or is not brave enough to ask his son such a question. Then the love between them will not be as full as it could be. We need courage to ask these questions, but if we don’t ask, the more we love, the more we may destroy the people we are trying to love. True love needs understanding. With understanding, the one we love will certainly flower.
